Postpartum Chiropractic Care in Huntersville, NC

Your body carried and delivered your baby. Now it's time to help it heal.

Your Body After Birth — Why Postpartum Care Matters

Delivery — whether vaginal or cesarean — places enormous physical demand on your body. Your pelvis has shifted. Your ligaments are still loose from relaxin. Your posture is changing again as you feed, hold, and care for a newborn around the clock.

Add in sleep deprivation and the hormonal shifts of the fourth trimester, and your nervous system is working overtime just to keep up. Postpartum chiropractic care addresses what's happening underneath the exhaustion: structural misalignment and nervous system stress that can slow your recovery and affect how you feel daily.

How Chiropractic Supports Postpartum Recovery

After birth, gentle chiropractic adjustments help your body:

Realign the pelvis and spine after the demands of pregnancy and delivery

Support nervous system regulation so your body can shift out of survival mode and into healing mode

Relieve common postpartum pain including lower back pain, neck and shoulder tension from feeding, and pelvic floor discomfort

Improve breastfeeding comfort by addressing the upper back and neck tension that comes from nursing posture

Recovery isn't just about waiting for your body to bounce back. It's about giving it what it needs to heal well.

What Postpartum Chiropractic Looks Like at Willow

Dr. Alyssa takes a gentle, individualized approach to postpartum care. Her Webster Technique training also gives her a pregnancy-specific understanding of pelvic balance, sacral alignment, and the physical changes that continue after birth. Your first postnatal visit includes a reassessment of your spine and pelvis, a conversation about how you're feeling physically and emotionally, and adjustments tailored to where your body is right now. If this is your first visit to Willow, we’ll walk you through the consultation, exam, and care recommendations so you know exactly what to expect before beginning care.

Most new moms can begin chiropractic care within the first few weeks after a vaginal delivery. After a C-section, we typically recommend waiting until you've been cleared by your OB or midwife — but every situation is different, and Dr. Alyssa will work with your timeline.

  • Lower back and sacral pain

  • Neck and shoulder tension from breastfeeding or bottle feeding

  • Pelvic floor discomfort or instability

  • Fatigue and difficulty recovering energy

As healing continues, adult chiropractic care can help moms address ongoing stress, posture changes, headaches, neck tension, and back pain beyond the early postpartum window.

From Postpartum to Pediatric — Continuing Care for Your Family

Many of our postpartum moms bring their babies in at the same time. If your baby is dealing with feeding difficulty, fussiness, reflux, or a head tilt, Dr. Alyssa can assess them too — gently and safely.

Frequently Asked Questions

When can I start chiropractic care after giving birth?

Most moms can come in within the first 1–2 weeks after a vaginal delivery. After a C-section, we recommend waiting until you've been cleared by your provider — usually around 4–6 weeks. ( I even see my c-section moms within the first 1-2 weeks as long as they are comfortable with it and just adapt how we are adjusting to what their body needs, including doing the entire assessment and adjustment seated.)

Is chiropractic safe after a C-section?

Yes, once you've been cleared. Dr. Alyssa uses gentle techniques and will avoid any direct pressure on or near the incision site. Care is always adapted to your comfort level.

How does chiropractic help with breastfeeding difficulties?

Breastfeeding places repetitive stress on the neck, upper back, and shoulders. Chiropractic adjustments relieve that tension and improve posture, which can make nursing more comfortable. If baby is also struggling to latch, infant chiropractic can address tension patterns that may be contributing.

How often should I see a chiropractor postpartum?

Frequency depends on how you're feeling and how your recovery is progressing. Most new moms are seen weekly or biweekly in the early weeks, tapering as they heal.
